Responsible Tourism Policy

Our commitments

Biosphere Committed Hike Time Portugal
At Hike Time Portugal, we believe that tourism is a tool for positive transformation — for people, for territories and for the planet. It is in this spirit that we clearly assume our commitment to responsible and sustainable development, in line with the principles of the World Charter for Sustainable Tourism and with Porto Covo’s strategy as a Biosphere Certified Destination.
Aware of the impact of our actions, our responsible tourism policy is based on ethical and sustainable management, oriented towards a balance between economic activity, human well-being and respect for local ecosystems.
Our commitments:
Valuing people, promoting the well-being, equality, inclusion and personal development of all employees, partners and visitors.
To preserve and enhance the natural and cultural heritage of Porto Covo, encouraging authenticity, local identity and territorial pride, promoting genuine and enriching experiences.
Support the local economy, by hiring residents, valuing local products and services and stimulating partnerships with agents in the territory.
Adopt good environmental practices, reducing consumption, waste and emissions, and promoting energy efficiency, the circular economy and the regeneration of natural resources.
Continuously train and raise awareness among our employees of the principles of responsible tourism.
Promote respect and human dignity by actively combating all forms of exploitation, discrimination or harassment.
–  Continuously monitor and evaluate the impact of our activity, reviewing our practices in the light of sustainability objectives, with a focus on continuous improvement.
We assume this policy as a basic guideline and living commitment, which will be regularly reviewed and updated, ensuring that we grow consciously and responsibly, at the service of tourism with purpose, with soul and with a future.

Help us protect our trails!

Our mission is to enjoy nature while leaving only footprints and taking only memories. To help us preserve the water and energy resources of the regions we visit, we share some best practices with you:
—-
Bring your own reusable bottle or canteen. Avoid single-use plastics.
Use water mindfully during the trek. If we pass natural springs or villages, use only what is necessary.
Never use chemicals (soaps or detergents) in natural watercourses.
—-
We suggest carpooling to the meeting point to reduce CO” emissions and fuel consumption.
Ensure your electronic devices (phones, cameras) are fully charged before leaving home to avoid the need for emergency charging in rural areas with limited infrastructure.
If you use GPS or trail apps, optimize battery usage (power-saving mode) to extend the device’s life during the activity.
—-
Trails without restrooms: Bring a small bag and leave the trail clean.
Leave no trace of your passage and help us by picking up any litter you may find.
Respect nature. Do not collect or disturb animals, plants, or rocks.
Stay only on the marked trails selected to minimize the impact on nature.
The cliffs feature important rock formations and archaeological remains; please do not collect samples.
