Sustainable Tourism

Biosphere Committed Hike Time Portugal

At Hike Time Portugal, we believe that tourism is a tool for positive transformation — for people, territories, and the planet. It is with this spirit that we clearly assume our commitment to responsible and sustainable development, aligned with the principles of the World Charter for Sustainable Tourism and the Porto Covo strategy as a Biosphere Certified Destination.

Conscious of the impact of our actions, our responsible tourism policy is based on ethical and sustainable management, oriented towards the balance between economic activity, human well-being, and respect for local ecosystems.

Our Commitment:

Valuing people, promoting well-being, equality, inclusion, and personal development for all employees, partners, and visitors;

• Preserving and valuing local natural and cultural heritage, encouraging authenticity, local identity, and territorial pride, promoting genuine and enriching experiences;

• Supporting the local economy through the hiring of residents, valuing local products and services, and encouraging partnerships with regional agents;

• Adopting good environmental practices, reducing consumption, waste, and emissions, and promoting energy efficiency, circular economy, and the regeneration of natural resources;

• Continuously training and raising awareness among our collaborators regarding the principles of responsible tourism;

• Promoting respect and human dignity, actively fighting all forms of exploitation, discrimination, or harassment;

• Continuously monitoring and evaluating the impact of our activity, reviewing our practices in light of sustainability objectives, with a focus on continuous improvement.

We assume this policy as a foundational guideline and a living commitment, which will be regularly reviewed and updated, ensuring that we grow in a conscious and responsible way, at the service of tourism with purpose, soul, and a future.

Help us protect our trails!

Our mission is to enjoy nature, leaving only footprints and taking only memories. To help us preserve the water and energy resources of the regions we visit, we share some good practices with you:

• Bring your own reusable bottle or canteen. Avoid single-use plastics;

• During the journey, use water consciously. If we pass by natural springs or villages, use only what is necessary;

• Never use chemical products (soaps or detergents) in natural watercourses;

• We suggest carpooling to the meeting point to reduce CO2 emissions and fuel consumption;

• Make sure you bring your electronic devices (phones, cameras) fully charged from home to avoid the need for emergency charging in rural areas with limited infrastructure;

• If using GPS or trail apps, optimize battery use (power-saving mode) to prolong equipment life during the activity;

Trails without restrooms: carry a bag and leave the trail clean;

• Leave no traces of your passage and help us by picking up any litter you may find;

Respect nature. Do not collect or disturb animals, plants, or rocks;

• Walk only on marked trails selected for a lower impact on nature;

• Cliffs often feature rocky formations and important archaeological remains; do not collect samples.
